This is the second album by Baltimore-based clarinetist and composer Todd Marcus. It showcases his virtuosity as a rare modern mainstream jazz instrumentalist and improviser on the bass clarinet as well as his first efforts to incorporate Middle Eastern influences in jazz.

The album displays his ability to swing with authority at the helm of two different quartets each anchored by bassist Eric Wheeler. Pianist George Colligan and drummer Warren Wolf are heard on the CD’s more driving, high-energy songs while pianist Xavier Davis and drummer Eric Kennedy are featured on Marcus’s more introspective compositions.

The album also features the addition of special guest clarinetist Don Byron who has been the pioneer of clarinet in modern jazz and has long been one of Marcus’s inspirations.
